YouTube Demonetization: Logan Paul vs. Period Sex
YouTube. The place I can always count on to suck me into an endless rabbit hole of wasted time disguised in the form of hundreds of 15 minute videos that don't seem to take up valuable time but do. YouTube is home to a variety of entertainment from the most mundane morning routine to all the weird stuff that pops up in your recommend box at 2 am. With all of these videos being released everyday there is bound to be inappropriate content. It is common knowledge that YouTube takes down the content that is considered to be inappropriate. But who decides what is inappropriate and what isn't? I don't know but whoever they are, they need to sit down and reevaluate their choices.
A while ago, a youtuber I watch posted a video in which she touched on the topic of period sex and masturbation (this is a blog for school so I'm not quite sure if I just crossed a line but oh well). The video was demonetized due to its "inappropriate content." Apparently, its not okay to talk about natural things that happen to humans on the internet. I know that it was probably demonetized to lessen the risk of some random 11 year old stumbling upon the video. But here's the thing: there honestly isn't a problem with that. To be completely honest, sex education provided at schools is less than sub par. I didn't even know female masturbation happened until much later than I should have known and let me tell you why. Because in middle school when we had sex education, the boys and girls were separated. The boys were taught about masturbation and the girls were not. If some poor 11 year old child stumbled upon this video, at least they would be educated. Learning about the completely normal functions of the human body have somehow been twisted by the censorship of media to make it taboo. This stigmatization is not at all healthy and it needs to stop.
On the other hand, youtuber Logan Paul posted footage of him discovering a suicide victim in a forest. Not only was he being disrespectful and insensitive by posting the footage at all, he was also very insensitive in the footage he posted. He received so much hate for doing this from the general public that he had to take the video down. However, the video was up for a decent amount of time before he deleted it and in that time, YouTube did not bother to demonetize it. I find it hard to believe that the people in charge of purging YouTube's content would not have seen this video as Logan Paul is a very popular youtuber specifically among younger kids.
The fact that this was not demonetized but a video of someone talking about period sex was is beyond me. I think it is discussing and does not show proof of the development of healthy societal norms.
